Forklift Mechanics

A Forklift Mechanic is responsible to maintain and repair various types of electric, gas, diesel and LP forklifts and related equipment. Forklifts are used for moving materials around warehouses, storage yards, factories, construction sites and other work sites. These vehicles are a critical part of ensuring a smooth production and packaging process in large warehouses. Machinery wholesale companies, however, are among the main employers of forklift mechanics.

Safety is paramount for Forklift Mechanics. The individual must be able to inspect and test equipment to ensure all safety devices are in proper working order. After inspection, these mechanics keep a data log of frequent issues that need troubleshooting and the solutions that were implemented in the past. Maintaining an inventory of parts, such as placing orders for when they deplete, is a normal part of the day.

The manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications must be adhered to as well, especially those related to the timelines for changing oil, filters, and belts. These guidelines can be a great resource for details on calibration of equipment, lubrication, and inspections as well.
